His dad looks completely startled, staring at him in disbelief, adding: 'What the? Don't put me swearing on there.'
He jolts backwards and brings his hands to his face, saying: 'Oh my God!' He then appears to relax and clock what is going on as he says: 'I mean enough to be scared by somebody and then to see this face' as he points at his son and laughs.
At the end of the clip, Brian is seen wishing him a happy birthday as they finally embrace.
Brian, who had not seen his father in six months, said since moving away from home he has surprised his parents a number of times and it has become a tradition.
He told Daily Mail Online: 'There were a few times I flew back to surprise my parents as I knew they missed me a lot.
Surprise! His father's initial reaction was to scream: 'What the f**k? What the hell? Holy s**t!'
Genuine shock: At one point he was so shocked that he jolted backwards, pictured left and documented in a video that has been watched more than two million times on YouTube
'One time I flew home around Halloween and rang their doorbell with a mask on and surprised them.
'It's kind of turned into a thing, for one of my birthdays my dad flew out to California and surprised me at a restaurant. So we've kind of been doing this back and forth for a few years now.'
For his latest surprise, he collaborated with his mother who came up with the idea 'last minute'.
'Just before we got to the house I jumped in there. She asked him if he could grab a few things from the trunk and that's when I surprised him,' he added.
Brian said he had not planned to record it but decided to in the final moment.
He added: 'I figured he would be surprised...finding your son who lives on the other side of the country in your wife's trunk is pretty nuts.'
After his dad got over the shock - which Brian said took approximately 20 minutes - he said they got pizza and had drinks together and 'had a really fun night'.
He said his father does not normally swear and said he is a 'church-going man'.
'[He] was so worried about this video being popular because of it,' Brian added.
