Acacia Smith, 25, died when the car overturned and burst into flames in the early hours of Tuesday.
A man in his 20s, who was driving, was in a critical condition last night.
He is believed to be Ms Smith's boyfriend Craig Kearney.
Scotland Yard said a patrol car was sent to Wandsworth prison, south London, following reports that a drone had been spotted flying near the prison grounds.
Shortly after officers arrived, a silver-coloured car left the scene.
Police chased the vehicle at high speed for about two miles as it went over Wandsworth Bridge and into Fulham, west London, where the car crashed.
Ms Smith, who was in the front passenger seat, died instantly.
Mr Kearney was later pulled from the wreckage and taken to hospital.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation.
Ms Smith's close friend Kamara Rattrey wrote on social media: "In the early hours of this morning Acacia was involved in a car accident and sadly passed away.
"Her mother has asked me to inform everyone via Facebook as it was felt that this would be the easiest way to inform everyone."
In another post, Ms Rattrey wrote: "We had so many plans for our future. It was supposed to be me and you until the end, growing old together.
"I'm so angry that our time together has been cut short."
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "It is believed no other vehicle was involved in the collision. The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended.
"One occupant of the car, a woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupant of the car, a man believed to be aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition."
