2018 Bentley Flying Spur V8 S Black Edition Revealed

Score one more for the dark side as Bentley has just unveiled the 2018 Flying Spur V8 S Black Edition. Like the 2017 Continental GT Speed Black Edition introduced last year, the Flying Spur V8 S counterpart is hardly an all-black exercise. Still, Bentley says this latest take on its luxury 4-door offers a "darker" character regardless of what basic color the buyer may select.

Exterior highlights of the new Flying Spur variant add gloss black accents to all brightwork including the grille, air intakes, window surrounds and mirror housings. These are set off with dark-tint lights, unique black-finish 21-inch "Elegant" alloy wheels and black or optional red-painted brake calipers. The two-tone cabin features a contrast color on the seats and headliner–although here, too, buyers can opt for other personal choices–as well as Piano Black veneer trim and a 3-spoke Sport Plus steering wheel.

Like other Bentley offerings, the new Flying Spur V8 S Black Edition can be ordered with a Mulliner Driving Specification upfit. This option brings diamond-quilted leather with contrast stitching in the seats and door panels and also offers a choice of different wheels and wheel finishes.

Motivation for the Black Edition comes from the more potent S version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 521 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque–up from the 500/487 stats in a base Flying Spur V8. Backed by an 8-speed ZF automatic and a 60/40 rear-biased AWD system, it enables this latest Flying Spur variant to sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds on its way to a 190-mph top speed. Prices for the 2018 Bentley Flying Spur V8 S Black Edition will starts at $216,825. Order books are now open, and initial U.S. deliveries are set to begin in November.
